Lady Liberty Wept

 LADY LIBERTY WEPT

Lady Liberty wept.

            She was the symbol of freedom,

But freedom was in chains

            In the land of the free.

Lady Liberty wept,

            Because now only the wicked walked free,

                        And corruption ruled the land.

Lady Liberty wept

            As prideful privilege paraded,

                        Greed gloated,

            And the strong trampled the weak

                        In the land of the free.

And so Lady Liberty wept

            To see what had become

                        Of a land once free.
