WUKOKI
It juts high
On its lonely rock
Far into the desert sky.
**********
It was ancient a thousand years ago.
They who built it are forgotten.
Yet their spirits remain.
**********
And the stones remain.
Only they remember those
Who piled them one atop another.
**********
We entered the home of the ancient ones.
The night was dark, the moon, bright.
Far away a lone coyote howled.
**********
We held on to each other.
The ancient ones gathered around,
And we joined the lost and the forgotten.
